APRIL 2025
Music Therapy Week 2025
Music Therapy week we had a variety of things happening - we held our first school holiday program, we had a stall at the Papanui library, the team shared their wealth of knowledge & our wonderful therapist Renata had a radio interview with RNZ - what?!
You can listen to Renata's radio interview here.
We are always so proud of our team & the wider music therapy community for continuously advocating & spreading the word about music therapy & a huge thank you to you, yes you, thank you for always supporting us.
School Holiday Program
We were so grateful to be included in the Arts Centre School Holiday Program back in April, we had a great turn out and the team enjoyed doing something different. Music Makers with SMT was an opportunity to give children an inclusive space to express themselves through music & movement.
Getting to know the team
Did you get to know us? If not, go back on our Facebook & Instagram pages (or just click the link below) to get to know our team of 2025!
We had such fun answering these questions, we find doing this gives our wonderful clients & future clients a little insight into our lives & interests - believe it or not, it can help in sessions too!

Thrive 25!
Wow! What an incredible turn out this morning at our Thrive 25 presentation. Kim & Renata loved talking about music, music therapy & neuro plasticity. Thank you to the awesome audience for attending & participating in live music making together, no better way to understand it than to do it. Fantastic feedback from today as well!
A big thank you to the Thrive team, Aspire Canterbury, @braintreewellnesscentre & Step Ahead for hosting the event. We look forward to the next one!
JUNE 2025
Cantabrainers - Mid Winter Concert
The Christchurch & North Canterbury choirs came together for their annual mid-winter concert & it did not disappoint! You can catch up on the performance via the Cantabrainers Facebook page.
JULY 2025
Cancer Society Pilot Program
Thank you, Cancer Society North Canterbury & Cancer Society Southern for partnering with us on this pilot project exploring how the creative processes in music therapy can reduce the impact of a cancer diagnosis and support people on their cancer journey towards Hauora - health and wellbeing. Participants have opportunities to connect, express themselves and create music together, through exploring the voice, movement and a range of instruments in a supportive space. We also discuss how to use music in their daily lives. This was for workshops, group work & working with referred individuals.

See what they got up to here!
Thank you to Music Therapy New Zealand & MusicHelps for their generosity.
We look forward to the next session!
School holiday program
In the July school holidays we held 2 sessions for kids at BrainTree Wellness Centre. We had a wonderful turnout & have successfully created a new group for term 3 (read more here). From having so much fun, we forgot to take any photos...oops! We look forward to being able to hold more, if you are interested, please email us info@smt.nz to express your interest.

The response we have had for more school holiday programs has been inspirational - we will not be holding another school holiday program this September school holidays; however, we are going to aim for more in 2026 so keep up to date with our news and events via our social media pages & website www.smt.nz/newsandevents.
