Registered Music Therapist


Southern Music Therapy is recruiting a Registered Music Therapist with experience working with both children in special education and children and adults with neurological conditions like Stroke, Traumatic brain injury, as well as progressive neurological conditions like Dementia, MS and Parkinson’s.

  • This exciting opportunity is a 30 hour a week role, working Tuesday – Friday, with potential to increase to full time. Between $28 - $34 per hour, depending on experience.

  • You will be working as part of a dynamic supportive team and will contribute to the development of our therapeutic services. Southern Music Therapy works with people who have an intellectual disability,  children in special education and children and adults with neurological conditions. 


  • The ideal candidate will be able to work across all areas with a specialist area working with people who have neurological conditions. Ideally the candidate would have at least 2 years' experience in this area and have completed the NMT training, or have an interest in taking this training within the first 12 months of employment.

  • You will be delivering individual and group music therapy sessions to clients across Canterbury. We have 3 music therapy clinic spaces in Christchurch, as well as outreach work in the community. 


  • You will also be apart of the opening of our newest Music Therapy clinic space at BrainTree Wellness Center which is a first-of-its-kind project that will support people living with neurological conditions to live well.
